Birmingham played a major part in the Industrial Revolution. As an industrial centre, Birmingham suffered heavy bomb damage during World War II's "Birmingham Blitz". The city was extensively rebuilt and redeveloped during the 1950s and 1960s and is now England's second major commercial centre.
