- National Glass Centre
The National Glass Centre is dedicated to exploring ideas through glass
and providing opportunities for people to be creative, enjoy themselves
and feel inspired. Based in a unique, contemporary glass and steel
building, the National Glass Centre houses exhibition galleries, artists
studios and production facilities, craft & design shop and an award
winning café/restaurant.
- Arbeia Roman Fort
housed a garrison and once guarded the entrance to the River Tyne. The
excavated remains, stunning reconstructions of original buildings and
finds discovered at the site combine to give a unique insight into life
in Roman Britain.
- Ryhope Engines Museum
- Seven Stories is
wholly dedicated to the art of British children’s books. It is under
Byker Bridge in Newcastle’s Ouseburn Valley
- Segedunum Roman Fort, Baths
& Museum is
once again the gateway to Hadrian's Wall; it is the most excavated fort
along the Wall with a large interactive museum and a 35m high viewing
tower providing outstanding views across this World Heritage Site.
- The Centre for Life in
Newcastle upon Tyne is a science village where scientists, clinicians,
educationalists and business people come together to promote advancement
of the life sciences.
Skating@Life Every winter, Life hosts the region's favourite ice
rink on Times Square, right outside the Science Centre. You can enjoy a
skate with family and friends seven days a week. Visit the
Doctor Who exhibition from May 2010, where you'll come face to face
with monsters, spectacular props and costumes from the hit BBC show
- The Literary & Philosophical
Society (Lit & Phil) is the largest independent library outside
London, housing over 150,000 books and a music library including 7,000
CDs and 10,000 LPs. The Grade II* listed building was opened in 1825 and
the magnificent reading rooms remain largely unchanged. The collection
provides an exceptional resource for both general reader and academic
researcher. In addition to the library, the Society hosts a wide range
of events including book launches, concerts, lectures, readings and
workshops that cover a variety of topics and issues. Both members and
non-members are welcome to attend these events, which are mostly free.
