Norfolk
Norfolk is a very flat, low-lying county. It is on the east coast of
England, with Lincolnshire to the west, Cambridgeshire to the west and
southwest and Suffolk to the south.
The North Sea coast is on the east and north, where the Rivers Witham,
Welland, Nene and Great Ouse feed into The Wash. Norfolk is a popular
tourist destination with many seaside resorts including Great Yarmouth,
Waxham, Cromer and Holkham Bay. The county town is Norwich.
Norfolk is famous for its windmills (see Jonathan Neville's
Norfolk Mills site) and its
dialect. The Friends of
Norfolk Dialect (FOND), founded in 1999, is dedicated to conserving and
recording Norfolk’s linguistic and cultural heritage, thus keeping ‘Broad
Norfolk’ alive.
